Kaya Kalpa/Dark Room
Are you a sincere, spiritual aspirant who wants to go deeper? Then Kaya Kalpa is a powerful experience that opens doors to a whole new aspect of your inner world.
BEYOND TIME AND SPACE
A dark room retreat helps you realize what spiritual masters have been teaching us since the beginning of time. That beyond the physical body, beyond our thoughts and emotions, there exists a divine reality that is not born in a body and that never dies. The masters speak of a divine Self; the very Spirit and Life that flows through us all. By letting go of identification with body and thought, you open the door to experience Reality in and as Yourself. In this way, Kaya Kalpa, the dark retreat, is a tool to go beyond the body and remember Your True Nature of eternal Awareness and Love.
The absence of light initiates certain processes in the body and psyche; developments that result in profound healing and rejuvenation. It is said that this comes from remembering the earliest period of our existence, the time we spent in our mother's womb before we were born. In a similar way, in the dark retreat we return to that feeling of being nurtured by Mother Earth, fully protected and cared for. On a psychological level, the absence of light reduces our identification with body and mind.
One of the masters who spoke about what it takes to go beyond the body and become one with the Divine is The Mother, Mirra Alfassa, founder of Auroville in India.
“There must be a total and sincere surrender; there must be an exclusive self-opening to the Divine Force; there must be a constant and total choice for the Truth that descends, a constant and complete rejection of the falsity of the mental, vital and physical powers and manifestations that still rule earthly nature. The surrender must be total and occupy all parts of the being. It is not enough that the psychic reacts and accepts the higher mental or that even the inner vital submits and the inner physical consciousness feels the influence. There must not be in any part of the being, even in the most outer, anything that forms a reserve, anything that hides behind doubts, confusion and excuses, anything that rebels or refuses. If one part of the being surrenders, but another part holds back, follows its own path or sets its own conditions, then every time that happens you yourself push the Divine Grace away from you. If you make your devotion and surrender a cover for your desires, selfish demands and vital insistence; if you substitute these things for true striving or mix them with it and try to impose them on the Divine Shakti, then it is useless to have the Divine Grace
PHYSICAL EFFECTS
Kaya Kalpa is a technique used for thousands of years in Ayurveda to heal the body, combat aging and even grow back limbs, teeth, hair and so on. Sound incredible? Yet these amazing effects have been reported many times.
During a Kaya Kalpa retreat, you as the participant enter a completely dark room for a certain period of time. These periods can range from two days to two months, and the transformative effects increase with duration. In the Kaya Kalpa room, where no light enters, the participant spends their time meditating, possibly practicing yoga or other spiritual practices.
It can be intense to be alone with your own thoughts. You may experience hallucinations or realize that the darkness in your own mind can come from nothing but yourself. From this place you start to realize how powerful your mind is and that nothing takes place outside of you. Therefore, a dark retreat can accelerate your spiritual journey.
Before participating in a longer 5-day Kaya Kalpa retreat, it is therefore necessary to have at least some meditation experience as well as the guidance of a teacher.
